Veterans Beachbound – Houston Event

On January  16th, 2021 Warfighter Scuba hosted an event where we were presented a a all-terrain beach wheelchair by fellow nonprofit Freedom Alliance.  The Freedom Alliance is a wonderful organization that loves to help by supporting other nonprofits that help their mission to help our veterans.  You can view more about Freedom Alliance on their website at freedomalliance.org.

The wheelchair presented to us by Freedom Alliance was built by a third nonprofit called Other Side of the Dunes.  They specialize in building these custom chairs for wounded veterans to allow them access to the beach.  More information on Other Side of the Dunes can be found at othersideofthedunes.org.

After 2020 bringing the COVID virus and all of the lock downs worldwide governments created, this was our first event in over one entire year.  The year on lock down in 2020 was awful as we had to cancel 10 trips with 40 veterans.  The good news is we now have a amazing chair for beach access on Roatan for our veterans with significant wounds.  We are looking forward to 2021 and the end to lock downs and international travel restrictions so we can start getting underwater with our veterans who have been patiently waiting.

We really would like to thank everyone who attended this wonderful event, the veterans who were able to attend the donors who donated during the event and our board of directors for setting the whole thing up in such short notice.  We even had Representative Dan Crenshaw stop by to hear about our program and hopefully come dive with us in the future!  Now more than ever we need your support to help make up for the lock downs in 2020, any donations you can provide this year will go towards getting veterans back in the water for some decompression therapy.
